All pet portraits are provided ready for framing. Framing is the responsibility of the client, as this is a personal aesthetic decision. I strongly recommend framing the portrait with protective glass to preserve the soft and delicate nature of the pastel medium.

Steps to Memorialize Your Loved One

After making the decision to have a commissioned portrait of a loved one, it is important to provide photos that capture the pet's personality and traits that you would like to memorialize in a forever portrait. This is the most important key to unlocking a realistic portrait. I will need 3-4 good quality photos for the process.

Photos that show detailed fur direction are ideal to achieve a realistic rendering. If your companion is still with us today, you may have the advantage of taking several photographs until we have the desired images to work with. I can provide guidance along the way. However, if the loved one has crossed over the rainbow bridge, and the quality of existing photos isn't quite there, I may be required to improvise to achieve the best likeness possible. I will do my best to capture the essence of your loved one.

Important: It is the client's responsibility to retain the legal right to provide any reference photos from professional photographers.

2) Materials

Commission a custom pet portrait today and cherish a beautiful representation of your companion forever.

Each artwork is created with premium-quality materials. The foundation I use is Clairefontaine pastelmat, paper/board specifically designed for pastel medium. The background color can vary. Based on the coloring of your companion, I will make a recommendation as to the most suitable background color for your portrait. However, if you have something particular in mind, I will do my best to accommodate. Special ordering may be necessary and will add time to the overall process.

I primarily work with lightfast, archival pastel pencils and panpastel. These are very high quality and fade resistant. That said, it is highly recommended that you do not place your portrait in direct sunlight, as it can damage the portrait coloring over time.

The entire process is done by hand and with love. I use a variety of techniques, from blending to fine pencil strokes, to bring your pet portrait to life. I will keep the client informed along the process, and share photos as requested.

Depending on the portrait size and number of pets, the process to complete can take anywhere from two weeks to over one month. The process is very detailed and time consuming as I am focused on providing the most realistic end result possible. Therefore, it is important to schedule well in advance, especially if the portrait is needed before a holiday. Don't forget to consider shipping time as well. Depending on my schedule there may be room for last minute requests, and I will try my best to accommodate. We will discuss time requirements before proceeding with any project.

5) Shipping Final Portrait

Photos of the final portrait will be shared with the client prior to shipping, to ensure it meets expectations. After the final payment is received, I will ship the portrait in a sturdy mailing box for maximum protection until its final destination. I ship worldwide. Tracking numbers are provided. I am not responsible for any carrier delays. Again, it is important to plan well in advance if the portrait is needed by a certain date.

3) Process

The anticipation will be worth the wait! I generally avoid using fixative spray, as it can impact the coloring of the portrait. Many pastel artists do not use fixative spray for this very reason. As such, the portrait should be framed with a protective glass to protect the delicate nature of pastels. If not handled and framed correctly, the pigment can be smudged or even fall from the surface of the portrait.

Terms & Conditions

By agreeing to have a custom pet portrait commissioned, both the Artist and Client agree to the following:

  • All aspects of the services must be agreed to by both parties (Artist and Client) in writing, before commencement of the artwork. This includes portrait size, number of pets, headshot vs full body, background color, shipping, etc.

  • Framing and matting are not included in the services.

  • Artist acceptance of a Client commission is subject to availability of the Artist.

  • A 50% EUR/USD non-refundable deposit is required to schedule the commissioned portrait. This reserves a booking in the Artist calendar. The deposit will only be refunded if the Artist is not able to start or complete the commissioned artwork for any reason.

  • The remaining balance is due from the Client after completion of the artwork. After Artist's receipt of the final balance, the portrait will be shipped to the Client.

  • The Client is responsible to obtain rights of use of all reference photographs provided.

  • The portrait likeness is dependent upon quality, clear photographs supplied by the Client. The final product will be based on the likeness to the supplied photographs. The final product will not be based on the Client's memory of, or experience with, the subject. Artist's rendering will bear a close resemblance to the Client-supplied photograph; as the portrait is a work of art, there will be an artistic element to the rendering.

  • In the event of Client dissatisfaction with the services, each party agrees to work in a professional manner toward a reasonably appropriate resolution. The Artist has the sole final discretion to resolve the matter.

  • Copyright of the commissioned artwork rests with the Artist. Photographs of the completed portrait may be used on the Artist website, social media channels or any other means of publicity.

  • With Client's advance permission, the Artist may post progress videos and photographs of the commissioned artwork for publicity purposes.

  • The Artist will keep the details of the services confidential, as well as any personal data of the Client and subject matter. Photos of the subject matter are not considered personal data or confidential, unless otherwise agreed to in advance between the Artist and Client.

  • Any individual entering their information in the 'Welcome to My Mailing List' section is agreeing to receive a reasonable amount of updates and notifications from the Artist. To be removed from the mailing list, simply email your request to Kerri@KerriAntlesArt.com. Allow 10 business days for removal of information.

  • Artist is not responsible for postal or shipping service delays.

  • The completed artwork will be carefully wrapped and shipped in reasonably sturdy shipping boxes. Artist is not responsible for postal or shipping service mishandling or any damaging of artwork. If any damage occurs during shipment, the Client must seek compensation for damages from the postal or shipping service.
